Eco-Friendly Wedding Suppliers

Getting married is often described as the best day of your life yet often the most non eco-friendly event. The amount of throwaway décor that goes into the landfill, one use plastic cutlery, cups and straws, food waste, littering confetti, massive amounts of packaging and favours that are left behind.

It can feel different to go against the grain and do something different to others but being more eco-conscious shouldn’t be hard work. No one is perfect but if you have an open mind, challenge yourself to think about the environment and just making the smallest changes can make your wedding day that bit more sustainable and much better for our planet.

Below are some wedding suppliers which I have hand picked for being either fair trade, organic, vegan, ethical, recycled, repurposed, handmade, vintage or cruelty free. I also really encourage people to shop locally, buy British and seasonally as much as possible. Just making little changes can make a huge difference and I hope this guide provides suppliers for all budgets and many will save pennies too.

Green Label Kitchen

The Green Label Kitchen is run by friendly and food passionate husband and wife team Kara and Jim.

They both create the most delicious vegan food which is a pure feast for your eyes. When first seeing a Green Label Kitchen food spread the first thing I thought was just how colourful every dish was - like a festival vibe on your plate!

The best thing about the Green Label Kitchen (well apart from its 100% vegan!) is that every dish is loving hand made from scratch which is a rarity nowadays. They create seasonal plant based dishes in a buffet like style which creates a fun atmosphere rather than the traditional serious sit down meal.

I can vouch how delicious their food is and come highly recommended from me. Everything was so fresh, felt healthy (unlike my cakes haha) yet was so amazing with all the different flavours and textures. I had a big plate and tried a little bit of every dish on offer and I absolutely loved every one.

Kiss in Light Photography

Kiss in Light is a incredible photographer couple Alexandra and Gabor who are based in sunny Bournemouth and happy to travel. They are both really lovely people and have become good friends.

As a couple they capture photos that are really quite special! They have a distinctive natural story telling style that captures those real raw moments of emotion and love.

Alexandra and Gabor really put there whole heart and soul into each wedding which you can clearly see from their amazing work.

The couple are both vegan and therefore absolutely love eco-friendly, bohemian and vegan themed weddings. I worked with the lovely couple on a wonderful zero waste vegan wedding shoot in the summer and I highly recommend as your wedding photographer!

Granny's China Cupboard

www.facebook.com/grannyschinacupboard

What I love about Vicky is she is so friendly and someone I would really trust if I wanted to hire vintage china. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does and adores everything vintage!

I would describe Vicky as a china magpie! She finds all her beautiful china from all sorts of places but maybe a fussy magpie as she is quite particular what she thinks is good enough for her ever expanding collection.

Vintage china is beautiful, each piece unique, memory evoking and environmentally friendly as its being recycled rather than being thrown into a land fill. Trends come and go but vintage china is timeless! Vicky also hires out complimenting decorations, a vintage sweet table, gin station and cake wood slices to name a few.

One of the best thing that Vicky offers at Granny’s China Cupboard is that not only will she personally deliver your china and set up at your wedding venue (phew!) but she will collect it AND hand wash everything up!

The Green House

www.thegreenhousehotel.co.uk

The Green House hotel is a Grade II Victorian villa that has been beautifully restored as a stunning boutique hotel located in the heart of Bournemouth.

Everything about the Green House hotel is green! The hotel uses energy efficient lighting, the sun to help heat the water and generate electricity on site using a heat and power unit. Each room is furnished with solid wood furniture has been made in the UK using trees felled by storms or tree surgeons, wallpaper printed with vegetable inks and eco beds which are truly amazing. Nothing has gone a miss even the company car is run on cooking oil used in the kitchen!

Due to the Green Houses commitment to keep making the Green Hotel even greener the hotel was the UK's first hotel to offer a fully vegan wedding package, this is incredible news for couples who follow a vegan diet to reduce their environmental footprint. The news has been published across many vegan websites, news, blogs and bridal sites which is really exciting. I have been chosen to be the recommended vegan wedding cake maker for the Green House Hotel which is a such an honour as being kinder to our planet and animals is close to my heart. My favourite article of the Green House hotel's news can be found here

Gilbert White & The Oates Collection

www.gilbertwhiteshouse.org.uk/wedding-venue-hire

The pretty home of Gilbert White the father of ecology, who observed and recorded what he saw around him in his world-famous book, The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne.

Gilbert White loved his garden and the nature around him and his house and grounds provide a stunning heritage filled location for your wedding day.

This beautiful venue is really unique as there are so many settings to hold your wedding day all which are wonderful in there own right.

Firstly there is the 16th century barn with its period features and over looks the ancient parkland and awesome fire pit at sunset.

The restored 18th century gardens and acres of parkland provides an idyllic backdrop for photographs with views across the picturesque meadow. The Great Mead is a unique location for a marquee or tipi surrounded by the ancient meadows.

Gilbert Whites home is perfect for smaller celebrations with the great parlour available for intimate ceremonies up to 35.

Lastly the wedding co-ordinator Charlotte is just awesome. She is so friendly, helpful and hands on making sure everything is perfect. I am also so happy to be the recommended wedding cake maker for this beautiful nature inspired venue too.
